Meet the Founder

Ed Montoya

Edgardo Montoya

Founder and Managing Partner

Ed Montoya founded StewardSearch to be a career management and talent acquisition resource for the CFO and investor communities. He applies learnings and insights from two decades of experience advising senior executives and Board members on critical leadership hires in the high technology, healthcare, and financial services industries. Through thousands of conversations with hiring leaders and the CFO community Ed has developed a passion for career coaching, and through those relationships has developed an extensive network that serves as the foundation for our personalized and specialized approach to executive search.  

 

Before founding StewardSearch Ed led the Financial Officers Practice at two leading global boutique search firms after a decade at Spencer Stuart where he served as a consultant in the high technology and financial officer practices. Having advised start-ups to publicly traded companies Ed has developed a passion for the “science and art” of executive search leveraging structured interviews, informal reference checks and recent advancements in conversational AI. 

 

Ed started his career in New York and Silicon Valley as an investment banker in the Technology and Financial Institutions Group at Morgan Stanley. In between his two tenures at Morgan Stanley Ed served as a member of Affiliated Managers Group’s M&A team where he supported the company’s road to a successful IPO on the New York Stock Exchange.   

 

A product of California and public schools, Ed earned his MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley with high honors in economics.   

 

A life-long sports fan Ed resides in San Francisco with wife Monica and their two children. When not coaching executives Ed channels his inner Ted Lasso on the youth soccer fields of San Francisco.
